Customers of Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland experienced significant disruptions to their online and mobile banking services on Tuesday. The outage affected thousands of users, with reports flooding in across all three banks, which operate under the Lloyds Banking Group umbrella.

## Scale of the Outage

According to Downdetector, Lloyds customers submitted over 2,500 reports of issues, with nearly two-thirds related to the bank's app, 15% involving login problems, and 10% concerning online banking. Halifax saw more than 1,000 reports, while Bank of Scotland received over 300.

| Bank | Reports | App Issues | Login Issues | Online Banking Issues | |---------------|---------|------------|--------------|----------------------| | Lloyds | 2,500+ | 65% | 15% | 10% | | Halifax | 1,000+ | N/A | N/A | N/A | | Bank of Scotland | 300+ | N/A | N/A | N/A |

On X (formerly Twitter), all three banks acknowledged the issue and assured customers that they were working to resolve it.

## Recent Technical Challenges

This outage follows a series of technical difficulties for the Lloyds Group. Just weeks ago, Lloyds and Halifax were among the banks affected by a Faster Payments problem that disrupted online transfers.

Earlier this year, Lloyds faced a major app glitch that exposed the personal data of nearly half a million customers, leading to an investigation by the cross-party Treasury Committee of MPs. The committee also published data in March 2025 revealing that nine of the UK's top banks and building societies had accumulated over 803 hours of unplanned tech and systems outages in the previous two years.

## Customer Frustrations

One commenter, Gerrard Tudor from Door2Door Finance & Sales, highlighted ongoing issues with Faster Payments, noting that legitimate business transfers were often flagged as scams or frauds. He reported delays of over half an hour when trying to resolve these issues with customer service.
