Sagehaven Bancorp, a proposed digital-centric national bank, has selected the Nymbus core banking platform to serve as its technology foundation. The bank-in-formation filed its application for a national charter with the OCC and FDIC in July 2026 and aims to begin operations in April 2027.
Founded by three banking and corporate-finance executives, Sagehaven is positioned to become Pittsburgh's first startup, or de novo, bank in nearly two decades if approved. The founders are Brian Tabb, CEO and former SVP of Finance in Corporate Treasury at BNY; Angelo Innamorato, EVP/COO and former VP at Huntington National Bank and Director at BNY; and Jared Leland, EVP/Chief Counsel and former Director and Corporate-Finance Attorney at Houston Harbaugh.
Target market and strategy
The proposed bank will focus on small-to-mid market companies and mid-to-high-net-worth consumers. Its founders believe these segments are often underserved by traditional platforms or undervalued by large banking conglomerates. Sagehaven plans to operate a single physical branch in Pittsburgh's Strip District while offering national digital banking services.
Technology partnership details
To execute its vision, Sagehaven partnered with Nymbus, a provider of a modern core banking platform for U.S. Banks and credit unions. The cloud-native platform unifies core processing, account opening, digital banking, and managed services. This technology is intended to help the bank launch, operate, and grow with speed.
Brian Tabb, President and CEO of the proposed Sagehaven Bancorp, explained the rationale. "We set out to build a bank that pairs sophistication and resiliency with security," Tabb said. "Nymbus gives us the speed, flexibility, oversight, and digital framework to efficiently and securely serve businesses and individuals nationally in our tech-centric world."
Regulatory and launch timeline
Sagehaven anticipates a regulatory review period following its July 2026 charter application. After this, it aims to raise capital, secure final approval, and begin banking operations. The target for opening is April 2027.
Jeffery Kendall, Chairman and CEO of Nymbus, endorsed the venture. "This is exactly the kind of institution the market needs more of: an experienced team building something new to serve businesses and clients who want a real banking relationship," Kendall stated. He added that the partnership allows Sagehaven to have both high-touch service and modern technology from its launch.
The bank's proposed model hinges on using modern technology to provide a digital-first experience while maintaining a focus on relationship banking for its chosen customer segments. The selection of the Nymbus platform is a central component of this strategy as Sagehaven handles the charter approval process.
