Valley National Bancorp acquires Bluevine for $340 million
Valley National Bancorp is buying fintech Bluevine in a $340 million deal to gain $2.1 billion in deposits and AI-driven technology.

Valley National Bancorp is acquiring fintech Bluevine in a $340 million deal structured as 75% cash and 25% stock, announced via definitive agreement. The acquisition aims to boost the bank's small business banking position with AI-driven deposits and technology.
Strategic rationale and leadership integration
Valley CEO Ira Robbins says the deal will make the bank a much stronger and more relevant small business competitor. Bluevine founder and CEO Eyal Lifshitz stated the company was founded to give small business owners the financial tools and digital experience to manage and grow their businesses. He said Valley shares this commitment and brings balance sheet capacity, relationship banking expertise, and broader capabilities.
Upon completion of the deal, Eyal Lifshitz will join Valley National Bank as Head of Small Business Banking. Robbins stated the acquisition advances previously communicated strategic priorities, enhances core funding capabilities, adds a proven small business growth platform, and accelerates digital and AI capabilities.
Deposit impact and customer growth
Bluevine is expected to bring Valley National Bancorp about $2.1 billion in deposits. The fintech will grow Valley's small-business customer base by 20 times. About 40% of Bluevine's existing customers are already within Valley National Bancorp's geographic footprint.
Bluevine, based in Jersey City and founded in 2013 by Israeli entrepreneurs Eyal Lifshitz and Nir Klar, serves 175,000 active small business customers across the US. Valley National Bancorp is based in Morristown, New Jersey.
Technology and AI integration
Valley will gain Bluevine's approximately 180 research-and-development professionals and engineers based in technology hubs across the US and in Tel Aviv. Upon completion, Bluevine’s engineering, product, data science, and AI teams will join Valley National Bank.
The majority of Bluevine's code is AI-generated, and about 80% of inbound client inquiries are resolved by AI. Eyal Lifshitz said Bluevine has invested almost $200 million in its digital acquisition platform and user experience, and account opening takes about five minutes. The addition of these capabilities is expected to support Valley National Bank’s internal expansion and reduce its reliance on third-party software and service providers.
Financial metrics and timeline
The deal is projected to close early in 2027. Valley National Bancorp expects about 8% earnings per share accretion at closing alongside about 5% tangible book value dilution.
Bluevine's deposits will transfer to Valley National Bancorp in the first half of 2027 upon deal completion.
